Escobaria laredoi

Escobaria laredoi, part of the E. orcuttii complex, is native to SE Coahuila, Mexico. It does not appear to be difficult to grow from cuttings or from seed. It does, however, seem to be rather more shy about flowering than quite a few other Escobarias and the heads take longer to mature to flowering size.

Would you believe it?

Part I of the second edition of the CITES Cactaceae Checklist (1999) lists 6908 names (including a few duplicates where the same name has been used in different senses). The New Cactus Lexicon will have about 20% more. The good news is that these are names, not species.
