Newsletter March 2005 - Introducing Our New President

  Crest

At the AGM the members were pleased to endorse the Committee’s recommendation that Norman Williamson should be our Honorary President for the next two years.

For more than 20 years Norman has been a keen and active member of our Branch. He can be numbered among that band of people whose route into the hobby was via a packet of seeds from Woolworth’s. The seedlings were grown on, were joined by some bought plants and Norman built up a very nice collection. He exhibited at our Branch Show and at Poynton Show. Norman is an excellent grower of any kind of plant material. Many an ailing plant has had a new lease of life after being subjected to the Williamson treatment. From the mid-eighties till the early-nineties he was Branch Treasurer.

Norman Williamson

The June 1994 Newsletter contained a brief pen portrait of Norman. On being asked about his favourite plant his forthright answer was “I like them all. If I don’t like any I get shot of them!” Very sensible, because if you don’t like a plant you probably won’t look after it and it will just deteriorate. When then asked to give a piece of advice to the members, Norman’s suggestion was to attend the meetings, read the library books and the journals and you’ll accumulate a mass of information without really trying.
