In July the Society was saddened to learn of the death of Keith Mortimer a Vice President, Life Member, Fellow and former Chairman. Over the years Keith had done much to popularise the cultivation of caudiciform succulents. Keith last visited our branch in May 1998 when he did a Zone tour. Good news at last regarding the Journal. The files for the September issue were delivered to the printer early in the month With the ongoing process of building an editorial team there is every reason to believe that we will at last get back on an even keel. The worry over next year’s Society convention had eased. Enough advance bookings have been made to ensure that it can go ahead. It promises to be an excellent event next August. Please think seriously about attending. The long awaited publication by the Society of the Ferocactus book is iminent. The cost will be £32 (including carriage) or £29 if collected at a BCSS event such as the AGM or an Exec meeting. I usually attend these meetings and would be happy to pick up a copy for anyone who wants one. Alasdair Glen
