Message from our Chair

Welcome to the Macclesfield and East Cheshire Branch of the BCSS. We have a thriving Branch and are always happy to give a warm welcome to newcomers. We are fortunate to have an enthusiastic group of people in the Branch, who are diverse in their ages and interests, but all of whom have a common bond in their delight in growing and admiring Cacti and Succulents. The past two years have been a major struggle for most people but hopefully 2022 sees a return to some sort of normality. Thanks to the sterling work of our Secretary Bryan, and our Programme Organiser Elizabeth, we have been able to enjoy an almost full Zoom meetings programme.

In February we held our first live meeting, a much-delayed AGM. This took place at Victory Hall in Mobberley, our new meeting place. Meetings continue to be held on the second Monday of the month and Elizabeth has lined up a great range of speakers to appeal to all interests.

Following our gold medal successes in 2018 and 2019 at the RHS Tatton Park Show the Branch was aiming for a hat-trick of golds but unfortunately Covid-19 intervened and we did not compete in 2020 and 2021. The branch is additionally motivated this year to repeat this success following the untimely death of our Chair, Peter Cupial-Jones, at Christmas from Covid; the shows sub-group is determined to do Peter’s legacy proud and carry off a gold. Those of you able to visit the RHS Tatton Park Show during the week commencing 18th July will find our Branch exhibit in the main RHS Floral Marquee.

Tony, Chair.
